Noisy videos lately

Post by Robin0909 »

Hi!

Has anyone else noticed some noise in some of the recent videos?

Like someone is breathing directly in the microphone, it sounds windy.

Older videos sounds good, but some of these new ones are not as good on the audio part.

Thanks for letting us know about the microphone noise - it is something we have been aware of and we stopped shooting with that microphone and cable several months ago (there is typically a few months delay in posting videos from the date they are shot). The issue was actually with the cable that connects the external microphone to the camera - and the lack of an audio meter on the camera prevented us from noticing during the filming. We have used several other techniques to ensure future videos are less likely to suffer from this (including sending the camera back for servicing - there have been numerous problems with it). We've removed some of the worst of the noise in the post production, but I'm sure there are still some artefacts (as you have noticed). We think you'd prefer to see and hear the Rachelle videos rather than a.) see but not hear her (e.g. use a backing track instead), or b.) not see the video at all!

With respect to the tripod bumps and movements - we started using a tripod this year for filming rather than just hand holding the camera as the videos were a bit jerky. We occasionally shoot with two video cameras at a time - one of the tripods suffers from more noise and vibration than the other. In the past, the overwhelming preference was for the videos to be shot in a single continuous shot, rather than cutting between shots when the camera needs to be moved. We are happy to reconsider this if the demand exists.

just curious what camera you use, C300 or DSL's or even higher end like the Red's (most likely not as it's bigger, bulkier and heavier for straight handheld)?
