The wall between satin fetish and fetish

Post by fondofshiny »

As a long time satin lover, I have wondered for a while why “satin fetish” and “fetish” operate in such completely different worlds. Satin just doesn’t show up in mainstream fetish (or mainstream porn, for that matter). True, in the mainstream, there is some vague notion that satin is somehow a sensual and sexually charged material – you see a lot of porn movies and porn stars with reference to satin in their titles and names – but it doesn’t really play any role in the film, other than perhaps as some article of clothing to be removed or moved out of the way.

We do have Satinplay and SSSF, which is already much more than we had 5 years ago. But these sites just scratch the tip of the iceberg of what is possible in satin fetish. There are a lot of sexual and erotic themes you see in mainstream fetish sites, activity fetishes – smoking, leg and foot sex, facesitting, breath play – and in sites that cater to other clothing and material fetishes – latex, leather, plastic, denim, etc. – that simply haven’t crossed over into the satin world. Domination, S&M, bondage, dungeons, role play, sex machines, sex furniture and toys of various kinds. These elements are the mainstays of “fetish” movies elsewhere, but for some reason, there has been no crossover of these elements into the satin world (or of satin into theirs). (Unless there is some super-secret satin fetish website out there I don't know about.)

A number of years ago, there was one fetish house out of Germany that did do a satin fetish movie (“Hardcore in Satin”, it was actually not bad), but this did not seem to catch on, and turns out to have been a one-off. Other than that, virtually all the “satin fetish” clips that seem to be out there are done by either Satinplay or Sexy Satin Silk Fun. But these are only two sites, and the content they produce (and models they use) are not that different from each other, and relatively tame by sex “fetish” standards. They do set-based, single-shot, mostly gonzo-style masturbation scenes, where what varies from one clip to the next is the model, the clothes she wears, and the piece of furniture she happens to be sitting on when she masturbates. Other than that, there were some longer satin fetish clips done by Risque Renee a number of years ago, but as these were mostly done on special commission, that has dried up as a source for new clips. (Incidentally, I don’t count Tainster as a satin-fetish site – it and its predecessor sites specialized in girls-in-satin-blouses-having-sex-themed videos, and even this theme seems to be waning recently.)

I do not mean to sound overly critical of Satinplay and SSSF. These sites are great and have filled a vast void for the satin fetish community. I have been and will continue to be a member of these sites, because as a satin fetishist, they never fail to titillate me. But I recognize that the owners of the sites have made decisions about the boundaries of what they will and will not do, either for business or personal reasons and I respect that. My question is really more about the industry and market as a whole: why are there not many more satin sites, and no satin sites that cater to more varied and experimental expressions of the satin fetish?

I suppose the most obvious answer would be that there are not enough of us satin fetishists to make it commercially interesting to do a satin fetish website. At first glance that explanation seems reasonable, if disappointing. But on second thought, really? In the entire world, there are not enough satin fetishists out there to make satin fetish sites commercially interesting? Really?

I mean, there are some pretty obscure fetishes out there with noticeable presence on the web. For example, here are some websites available for people with a balloon popping fetish:

myballoonporn.com
balloonmovies.com
balloondirectory.com
mellyloon.com
loonergirls.com
balloonsexporn.com

Balloon popping for God’s sake! And these are the sites I found in just 2 minutes of searching!

Is it really the case that worldwide, there are more people with a fetish for balloon popping than for silk and satin? Maybe so, but that just seems weird to me.

Stay shiny,

It's definitely frustrating that there isn't a bit of a leaning to more extreme stuff that involves satin

When I say more extreme, I'm talking about things like Bukkake where the woman is wearing a satin gown or nightie, satin related handjobs, tickling where a woman is tickled through satin clothing or underwear, and my own fave, women dressed in satin and tied up being bought to orgasm with toys, or sitting on a sybian while wearing satin.

Through much research (more than is healthy  ), I've actually found examples of all of these on Clips4Sale and a couple of websites and e-mailed the store owners or site owners asking them to do more - but none of them bother

I reckon it's 3 things

1) Satin clothing is seen as just another form of sexy clothing like hot pants or low cut tops etc. and no one picks up on the fetish qualities. Think of it like this - you can walk into BHS or Marks and Sparks and buy a nightie no probs, whereas leather PVC and latex etc have a bit of a taboo aura about them that means they can't be bought in the mainstream. Most of the time, the producer doesn't even know they've satisfied a fetish; they just think they've dressed the model in something sexy

2) Satin lovers are tight arses - I have experience of this after trying to run a satin site many moons ago. Loads of people expressed an interest but when it came to parting with cash, there were a handful who bothered

3) The people who do try to start anything up are one person bands who don't have access to the finances to be able to book top calibre models and use top production equipment.

I can't believe that with all of the different sites Tainster has, they can't afford to diversify a bit and either do some of these videos as part of the Tainster membership, or stick 'em on a C4S site. Trouble is that they never respond to suggestions - I've lost count of the number of times I've e-mailed asking for them to do some sets with women doing all that lovely stuff (being pissed on excepted) in nighties only to receive no reply :?
