Re: Satin resources in the SF Bay Area

Depends where you are. Gas isn't cheap round these parts and you really need to bear in mind where you're based out of. Can probably recommend most of the south peninsula towards the San Jose. Fremont, Dublin pleasanton area, Oakland, more thrift stores in Berkeley and Palo Alto, and parts of Marin...

Re: Satin resources in the SF Bay Area

Aha, I thought you were looking for new items. The used market is a lot wider. There is Chinatown as mentioned previously, the quality of goods is always wanting. My successes in finding good items here in the bay are to visit thrift shops in relatively good neighborhoods. The major ones here are G...

There’s a lot of stores in San Francisco Chinatown that sell lovely silky clothes - cheongsams, robes, pajamas etc...
I bought quite a few dresses there when I visited the area.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check it out

Re: Satin resources in the SF Bay Area

What sort of thing are you looking for? Cause I can tell you there isn't much. I'm looking more for charity / second-hand shops that have some nice satin prom dresses. I know that there is always the good old eBay, but I have become more inclined to buying my satin in physical stores, where I can t...

Satin resources in the SF Bay Area

I'm moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in a couple of weeks' time. Anyone else lives there? Any suggestions where I can find nice satin outfits in the area?

Re: Vintage Hollywood satin dresses

Back in the late 90s, a more slender me, purchased about 20 bridesmaids/prom dresses for $5-10 each from thrift (charity) stores. These dresses were still from the time the US manufactured much of its apparel. So many of them have the Union label sewn inside. The fabric was also a rich acetate sati...

Hi ellmoss, that's a very elegant dress indeed!

Just one question. The fabric seems to have some "grainy" texture to it. Does the texture affect the silky touch of the satin? Is it as smooth as others?

I'm eyeing a similar one, but is hesitating because of the texture.

One good thing about Singapore is how brightly the communities are lit at night, which really compliments the shine of our favorite fabric :D I recently took some photos of my nightly walks around my neighborhood in different lighting conditions Very bright lighting in a long wooden corridor: PSX_20...

Re: Amazing silky slinky skirt

Hello lovely peeps Gosh I had such an incredible evening yesterday. Long story short I took a punt on a satin silk maxi skirt on ebay for £20. So so happy with it! It's far exceeded my expectations. It feels so soft on my skin, falls beautifully and looks heavenly. I couldn't resist the urge to boo...

Re: Is Satin Endangered?

I was recently in the US for a week and went into a Macy's department store. That trip gave me a little more confidence in the future of satin :D I saw rows and rows of prom dresses. Though most of them are made of boring chiffon, at least 10% are shiny satin!

Re: Jenny Yoo dress

Do you have the link to purchase this gown? Hi, this dress has been discontinued in all the official stores. I got it pre-owned from Poshmark. It's called Jenny Yoo Sabine, and there are still a few size 10's on Poshmark, but no more size 12 for now. An example of a size 10: https://poshmark.com/li...

Re: Jenny Yoo dress

Got my dress today :) The satin is so soft and smooth. Best of all, the dress is fully lined with smooth (not as smooth as the outer shell though) satin!

Re: Jenny Yoo dress

After much hesitation and procrastination, I finally decided to pull the trigger on this one. Unfortunately the sale item on the designer's own site is too small for me. So still took one from Poshmark.

Can't wait to hold it in my hands :D

Re: Is Satin Endangered?

I agree satin is endangered. I'm from malaysia. we don't have many satin wearers here. mostly are the malays only. as Chinese, we lack satin wearers. Chinese finds satin and silk as inconvenient clothings. might scratch them in washing or wearing process. thus they are treated as luxury stuffs that...
